I'M BITTER TOO. I don't think they'll ever cough it up because they realized they'll lose money that way. Most people only get paid accounts for the icon space and if that option was available, less people would get a paid account. :(

Heh, nevedr really looked at it that way, but I think you're exactly right. LJ makes a shitton of money on subscriptions I'm sure. I mean, yeah the abilities to make polls and block ads are nice, but most people just want the icon space. That may just be the reason that LJ is so damn slow on getting us a la carte icons. *sigh*
